The Kiwanis Club of Zanesville will be hosting a Pinewood Derby next month. The third annual derby is sponsored by Bolin-Dierkis Funeral Home and will be held at The Knights of Columbus Sunrise Center on April 14.

"We’re hoping to raise about 6-thousand dollars by having a fun night of adult pinewood derby racing. Normally it’s an activity for the cub scouts but we noticed that adults have just as much fun as the kids so about three years ago we started running this event," said Kevin Pinson, member of The Kiwanis Club.

The money raised from the derby fundraiser will go towards The Kiwanis Club youth-oriented programs including their Christmas part for underprivileged kids and horseback riding programs for handicapped children.

"Anyone who would like to race a car, it’s a 250-dollar sponsorship, they can contact any Kiwanis member that gives them the car kit and eight tickets to the event. If they can’t build their own car, we have a partnership with the clients out at Starlight, they build and design the cars and they will raise them if somebody would just like to sponsor them."
