The Starlight Tigers beat the Hancock County Buckeyes 48-38 in Columbus on Saturday and became Special Olympic state champions. This is the first state championship for the Tigers.
"I had confidence in the team the whole time that we were going to win but it was frustrating battling back and forth because I don’t like that close of a lead, that makes me frustrated," said Tigers Forward/PG Michael Lyons.
Head Coach Mike Hayes says Saturday’s game was a tough win, but everyone on the team did something great. And although the season is over for the Tigers, they’ll have a chance to play one more time against the staff at Starlight on April 6.
"I just want to thank these guys for really playing hard and working hard to get this win for us, we really appreciate it," said Tigers Head Coach, Mike Hayes.
The players say they can’t wait until next season and that they love the "family feeling" the team gives them.
