Charges Filed In Fatal Hit-Skip

by George Hiotis on April 15, 2013

Guernsey County Sheriff Mike McCauley said they have charged a Kimbolton man in connection with a fatal hit-skip accident this past weekend.

The Sheriff said that 29-year-old Thomas Nugent is charged with tampering with evidence and failure to stop following an accident. Sheriff McCauley said Nugent was taken into custody Sunday morning following a tip called in to the sheriff’s office.

McCauley said his deputies went to a property after getting the information from a caller and found the red car believed to have been used in the accident.

The sheriff said the accident happened Saturday on Old 21 Road, just north of State Route 541. The sheriff says a 15-year-old juvenile was operating a four wheeler and was towing a riding mower occupied by a 14-year-old when they were struck. Both juveniles were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival and the 15-year-old remains in the hospital.
