Dump Truck Roll Over Pins Driver

A dump truck rolled over late this afternoon, pinning the driver.

The accident occurred around 5 p-m on Pleasant Valley Road. The driver, Jerry Swingle, 80-years-old of Zanesville was traveling north on Pleasant Valley Road towards State Route 146 when the front right tire blew. the ford truck traveled off the right side of the road, struck a culvert and landed in a large ditch, pinning Swingle.

Lieutenant Andrew Jones, from National Trails Fire Department said, "Well, first on scene it took us a minute to figure out what we were going to do with the bed being crunched up against the hood of the cab. So by looking at the doors and everything we opened the doors, had to cut, pry, everything we could to get him out quickly and safely."

Ohio State Highway Patrol, Trooper Jeff Fowler said, "The driver was pinned in the vehicle between 45 minutes to an hour, National Trail Fire Department, as well as, Licking Township Fire Departments were on scene with the extradition and he was med flighted up to Grant Hospital with head injuries and possible internal injuries."

Officials listed Swingle as in stable condition. Fowler said he most likely will not be citing Swingle due to vehicle defect, however, the accident remains under investigation.
