Officials with the Muskingum County Center for Seniors met Thursday with the County Comissioners to discuss proposals for the construction of a new facility.

The first step of the process is to issue bid requests to evaluate community feedback. Then decide if the project is realistic. If so, they will ask the county to support a levy for construction of the center. They have been working on this project for more than 3 years and believe now is the right time and place.

"One of the great things is its location. It’s going be located near the OUZ/Zane state campuses, the rec center, the collegial trail. They’ll be green space around the building where seniors can do gardening. It will gives us a lot of opportunities we just dont have," Executive Director Terry Dunn said.

Dunn says that the commisioners are donating the land for the center and that the preliminary designs are cost efficient.

"Well some of the things we are looking at are certainly energy efficient it’s going be a energy efficient design they’ll be a lot of savings on utilities. Our utility bills are going to save the tax payer down the line. Instead of money going out to utilites it will go to the seniors and the projects that we work on, " Dunn said,

The earliest the county could see the issue on the ballot would be this November.
