Newark Police Department Swears in New Officer

The Newark Police Department swears in its newest officer.

Friday was the swearing in ceremony for new officer, Ryan Fumi. He completed his Ohio Peace Officer Training and has a Degree in Criminal Justice. Chief of Police, Steven Sarver believes he has all the makings of a good officer.

"We checked his transcripts from school, he had a bachelor’s degree, hes got all good grades…very good guy. Good criminal record, good credit history, everything about him you would want in a police officer, hes demonstrated those credentials," Sarver said.

Fumi went through 18 weeks of training that included both physical and mental exercises. He says he is ready learn the tricks of the trade. Celebration will have to wait because work comes first.

" Yea I mean we’ll probably go out to dinner but I have to work the rest of the day so i’ll probably celebrate the next couple of hours by working,"Fumi said.

Fumi’s family came from Youngstown and Columbus to see him get sworn in.
