A new judge was appointed to the Fifth District Court of Appeals earlier this year. Friday was his swearing in ceremony.

Judge Craig Baldwin is a graduate of Newark High School where the ceremony took place. He is the first judge from Licking County to be appointed to this position in more than 100 years. He will preside over fifteen Ohio counties including his home town.

"It’s amazing can I tell you, it’s a dream come true to be able to come back professionally hopefully meaningfully contribute to justice to my county and others," Baldwin said.

Prior to his appointment to the fifth district. He served 8 years as a judge in Licking County and plans to keep the same goals in mind.

"I think that there’s so much to do. Cases need to be taken care of fairly and efficiently and make sure that the system works that’s my goal," Baldwin said.

He says he is humbled and encouraged that his peers, family and county believe in him so much and he looks forward to making them proud.
