Vehicle Crashes on Newark Road

A scary situation unfolded for those traveling on Newark Road around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The State Highway Patrol said 62-year-old Robert Snyder Jr. of Zanesville was driving a jeep east on Newark Road when he went off the right side of the road near Adams Lane and then crossed through the west bound lanes, driving down an embankment and crashing through the top of a garage owned by Briarwood Millwork Company.

Amie Slack saw the event unfold. She was just about to turn left onto Newark Road when she saw the vehicle.

"I just couldn’t believe it," said Slack. "I really thought he was running a red light, but clearly after we got down to the scene he did not run a red light."

Another witness Jamie Schwartz helped break out the window of Snyder’s truck and told him to try and breath normal.

"Obviously there was someone watching over him," said Schwartz. "Normally when something like that happens it’s very very bad and you don’t just get up and walk away from something like that."

Trooper Mike Forshey said the man suffered a seizure prior to the accident.

"He was a little bit confused. He had a little bit of trouble realizing what was going on. He’s got some superficial cuts and I don’t think anything life threatening and it looks like he’ll be staying at Good Samaritan for awhile," explained Forshey.

Trooper Forshey said the incident will be turned over to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Snyder will need to get a doctor’s approval before he can resume driving. The Zanesville Fire Department also assisted at the scene and helped to shore up the building so the vehicle could be pulled out.
