Food, rides, and vendors all lined the street at an event taking place this weekend in Newark.

The city is having its 30th Strawberry Festival this year. It’s located at the heart of downtown in the square. This is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Kiwanis Club. Member, Rod Nelson says the money raised at the festival goes to an important cause.

"Camp O’Bannon is a camp for children in Licking County who are who might not otherwise have an opportunity to go to a camp and have a camp experience, " Said Nelson.

Nelson says over 400 hundred children are able to go to camp through the program. This years Strawberry Queen says she helps promote the festival and goes to different events throughout the year to support the O’Bannon camp. She says the kids get to experience a variety of activities while there.

"It’s really fun you go there and you can just sign up and you have to be about nine years old to start. You can go there for a week or two weeks and just stay there. You get to do all these activities swimming and it really fun, " said Rebecca Hanson.

The festival started Friday and ends on Sunday. It’s free and has plenty activities for children including a ferris wheel, a bungee jump and lots of strawberry topped desserts.
