Last Friday we told you about a new pieces of equipment being used by emergency responders and government entities to inform the public on everything from water breaks to weather emergencies. That same piece of equipment is now being used to help those responding to emergencies.
The system from Everbridge allows for government entities to set up a database of employees so they can inform them of upcoming training, overtime availably and staffing in case of emergency.
The system can call everyone on the list within two minutes of the alert being sent out.
"That’s the big advantage to it because you can get a hold of people right away," explained Muskingum County Emergency Management Director Bo Keck. "Plus you can notify them in several different ways from e-mail to texing to their cell phones. It’s a fast way of notifying your people."
Right now five of the fifteen county fire departments are on the system, along with Zanesville Fire Department. The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and Zanesville Police are also online. The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department has a database as well. There are plans to expand to others in the county.
"We’re looking at all other agencies several other agencies have already talked to us about it," said Keck. "The Village of South Zanesville is a prime example. They are putting in all their water, sewer customers, their trash pick-up customers and so forth as well as their fire department."
Each agency went through extensive training on how to use the system. Tuesday on the WHIZ News at 6 and 7 we’ll tell you about how the Everbridge system will act as a reverse 911 to inform all county residents in the event of disaster.
