The Muskingum Growth Partnership was started in 1989 to advance economic growth and development within Muskingum County using private sector leadership and resources. The commissioner’s received an update on how things are going.
"They, along with the city invest a lot of money in economic development every year through the Port Authority and we try to be a good partner to the Port Authority. So we just wanted them to know what we were up to on the private sector side," said Tom Poorman, President of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce.
Poorman says his group doesn’t need money from the county, but instead, they want ideas and input from the commissioners. The Muskingum Growth Partnership raises funds through investors and uses the money to help out local businesses.
"Then we’ll implement that marketing plan. We’ll also try to use some of those funds to support business retention activities. Existing businesses are really important to the community, you can’t lose a single one. And also small business development and entrepreneurship. We try to use some of those resources to support what the Muskingum County Business Incubator is doing."
The organization also collaborates with the Port Authority.
