A local church has a problem and they need residents help to solve it.
At one point the Sharon Avenue Free Methodist Church was down to 20 people at their Sunday service. Some Sunday’s that number now reaches about 100.
While having new faces is great, it’s also creating a problem a lack of space.
"I believe we’re all part of the same body and we’re preaching Jesus Christ. It’s a great thing that we’re growing, that our numbers are increasing and stuff and the community feels that they have a home here," said Choir Director Belle Shaw.
The expansion will tear out an old concrete handicap ramp, expand the sanctuary and help update the inside of the church. The estimated cost of the project is $80,000.
"We’re not trying to take anyone away from any other church, but if you don’t have a church you’re more than welcome to come and that’s kind of our message," explained Shaw. "We try to preach Jesus and we try and help people. We want to change our world."
To help raise funds the church will be holding a pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. The church is located at 1330 Sharon Avenue.
