A local school district passes a levy with a record setting approval rate.

The East Muskingum School District passed a 1.3 mill renewal levy on Tuesday. It provides emergency requirements for the district for the next 5 years. Superintendent Jill Johnson says community support made the difference.

"We were very excited because this is the highest percentage we have ever had vote for the levy and that was 78 percent over both counties supported the East Muskingum Levy, " Johnson said.

The levy will cover expansions for the school and provide money for operating expenses. Johnson says that the overwhelming support for the levy shows what her community values.

"It says that the East Muskingum community values education, that they’re committed to the education of our children and want to continue that commitment and also that they’re pleased and appreciative of the direction that the district is going with our academics and the welfare of children, " Johnson said.

Johnson says she wants to thank everyone who voted in the election .She says the highest approval rate prior to this was at 63 percent.
