What do a sheriff, fire chief, county commissioner, and a mayor have in common? For Zanesville and Muskingum County, they all got pies thrown in their faces Wednesday afternoon.
The Operation Feed Pie in the Face event, is a fundraiser to fill the food pantries for Muskingum County. Wednesday, twelve local celebrities volunteered to take pie filling, crust, and of course, whip cream to the face all for the good cause.
"It will go to all the pantries in Muskingum county,” said Operation Feed Steering Committee Member, June Smith. “There are sixteen pantry’s and two hot plate food programs, and they are all starting to run low, so that will be a good boost for them. "
Operation Feed would sell tickets and each of the12 volunteers took a bag to their work place, then buyers would place their ticket in the bag, and whoever’s ticket was chosen from the blind drawing, was the lucky thrower of the pie.
"Well we wanted celebrity kind of celebrities from the community to do because we thought of course they would sell more tickets and it worked out really well."
Smith said this is the second pie in the face event and she hopes it will get even larger next year with12 to 15 celebs. The event raised 681 dollars.
