SR 60 Accident Under Investigation

The Zanesville Highway Patrol says a motorcycle struck a car  Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of State Route 60 and Van Buren Drive near the Ohio 719 bridge.

The patrol is investigating the accident that took place just before 12:30.Sergeant Chuck Merryman says it happened after a southbound Ford Taurus attempted to turn left on Van Buren Drive.

"That’s where they met at the intersection, the motorcycle struck the right side of the Ford Taurus and from what we know right now it is serious injury to the motorcycle operator. The driver of the Ford Taurus at this point doesn’t seem to have any injuries," Merryman said. He is identified as John Newton of Zanesville.  The driver of the cycle is 33-year-old Tammy Morrell of Blue Rock.

 Merrymen says that Newton left the the scene of the accident. The Patrol says he walked to his sister’s house.

 But he was recovered here a short time later," Said Merryman.

Morrell was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Trooper say the accident remains under investigation and possible charges are pending.
