449 local students reached their goal of receiving higher education today.

Zane State College had their Commencement Ceremony. One Criminal Justice student believes his degree was an investment in his future.

Graduate, Thomas Davis said "Well I currently work at Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center. I plan on furthering my career and being in Ohio State Patrol. "

President of Zane State, Paul Brown said that 75 percent of students that graduate stay within a 30 mile radius of the school. He hopes the students will take leadership roles within the community. Brown said that his students went through obstacles to reach this point.

"Nobody tells their stories like our students. There’s a tremendous amount of dedication. Our students, most of them have full time jobs or family obligations and their juggling those life experiences and going to college at the same time, " said Brown.
