Food games and and a lot of animals were present at the Animal Shelter of Muskingum County Saturday.

The shelter had their first Animal Shelter Family Fun Day. The event was the unofficial unveiling of their newly painted and decorated cat room.

"We did some redecorating. We tried to make it brighter but also we expanded the area where the cats are living we combined two cages into one. Our plan is to make them healthier and happier and more prone to be adopted," said Director,Jody Murray.

The day featured a chinese raffle, face painting and vendors from We Love Pets and Invisafence to promote their animal products. To celebrate the animal shelter had animals for sale at special prices. Natalie Ross says she thinks the cost is a steal and she might take an animal home.

"Most likely a guinea pig they’re $ 5 for adult guinea pigs and $15 for baby guinea pigs, " said Ross.

Ross says she plans on helping out with the small critters the rest of the day. The staff and volunteers say they put a lot of time into the event and hope that more of animals find good homes.
