Country singers, from Miranda Lambert to Tim McGraw to Garth Brooks and several more, all have one thing in common more than their music genre. They were all discovered through a music talent competition!
The Texaco Country Showdown, is a national talent search, that starts in small towns and thanks to local sponsors, this year it will be coming to Zanesville!
"Now they can be young, they can be old, they can be groups, they can be individuals, but if they have a country song that they would like to submit to us on a CD or an mp3 they can drop it off at the stations,” said General Sales Manager for WHIZ Interactive, Jay Benson. “They can even use our studios to come in if they need to cut their own music in our studios."
A panel of judges, with musical backgrounds, will listen to the submitted demos and select the final acts that will perform on stage at Secrest Auditorium on August 3rd at 8pm. Two of those local judges have a couple of tips for preparing contestants.
"Originality, live music is real important I think, you practice long and hard, your playing hard, I just want to see the passion to go out there and play,” said Tommy Douglas, a Country Radio DJ Veteran and also the General Manager at Dunkin Diamonds.
"Exactly,” said Laura Schumann, the Music Director of Southeastern Ohio Symphony. “The spirit, the passion, the energy, the experience of having the live music at all and of course you want to see a certain amount of preparedness. We want everybody to come in knowing their stuff and confidence and feeling good and giving a great performance."
Tickets for the show go on sale on July 8th and will cost 11 dollars. For more information on the talent search, you can whiznews.com or countryshowdown.com.
