The Downtown Zanesville Farmer’s Market is up and running and the vendors have plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables flowers to offer.

Mark Barnhart is the President of the Downtown Farmer’s Market Association and says although he got his produce out today, he lost a lot of it due to the inclement weather.

"We lost about 2,800 plants. We covered them about 3 nights in a row. Like I said the other day weather is really critical to what we do, " said Barnhart.

Barnhart says with the help of friends he salvaged some of his crop and planned ahead to plant extra. Richard Schroeder of Schroeder Vegetable Farms says his farm faced some of the same difficulties with overnight frosting, but he says they pulled through and he is pleased with the recent community support.

"I’m just so excited that people are really grasping the buy local, buy fresh and trying to help the local economy by buying from local farmers, " said Schroeder.

There were plenty of items to choose from including fresh onions, asparagus, and radishes.Customers will also find plenty of sweeter items for sale such as raw honey, homemade desserts, and strawberries. If you want to visit the market stop by from 4:30 p.m.. to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Welcome Center until the 1st of October.
