The Fieldhouse Foundation held their 15th annual awards ceremony and gave out scholarships to many well-deserving athletes who will be heading off to college in the fall.

"There were 35 well deserving applicants. We have a committee of seven. Each committee member reviews all the applications that are submitted. We come down to a final five and that’s when we determine today, the final recipients of the awards. But all finalists will receive scholarships. Anywhere from $250 to $1000," said Mick Amicone, Owner of The Fieldhouse.

One of the recipients is Zach Hanf who received one of the awards. Zach was in a car accident last fall and lost his leg. Amicone says he became a state track champion in shot-put just six months after his accident. Zach wasn’t in attendance at the event because he has already started his career path to become a doctor, but his mom received the award for him.

"He’s always been interested in the medical field and since as far back as i can remember, he’s wanted to be a trauma doctor. So this accident really sealed it in, although he always knew that’s what he wanted to do," said Jennifer Soto, Zach’s mother.

The Fieldhouse Foundation has given over $30,000 worth of scholarships to local athletes over the past 15 years.
