The South Zanesville Fire Department’s Barbecue Chicken Fundraiser heated up Sunday.
The South Zanesville Fire Department needs to raise $20,000 by next January for a new high-band system and their annual chicken fundraiser is one way they’re hoping to reach that goal. Firefighter, Russell Taylor says this year’s barbecue was the quickest they have sold out and attendance was high.
"We’ve had at least 800 to 1,000 people here today already," said Taylor.
Taylor says the Zanesville Boosters have prepared the chicken for the barbecue for more than fifty years and says the meals sold so quickly there wasn’t enough for everyone.
"Some people are going to have to go home a little disappointed today, but we can make it up to them next year," said Taylor.
The fire department has two other fundraisers planned for later in the year including a gun raffle and golf outing to secure the rest of the funds for the upgraded system.
