After two long days at track camp participants were ready to show off their skills.
Saturday was the Godspeed Track Meet held at Zanesville High School. Some runners raced alone, some raced in teams, and the group consisted of preschoolers to high school students. The main goal of the camp was to help kids build confidence. Jacqueline Williams, who is a volunteer says the track meet is a unique opportunity.
"Usually they have D1 coaches here and that’s just a great opportunity for kids in this area because usually it’s so expensive to go to camps elsewhere and it’s so cheap here. I thought it was great, " said Williams.
Coaches from local colleges including Muskingum and Marietta came to teach the children the basic fundamentals of track and field this year. William’s parents came up with the idea to start a camp 4 years ago to give back to the community and it has been running ever since.
"I don’t know who these people were, but people were cheering for me and I’m like okay, "said Runner, Grace Lawrence.
The runners all received t-shirts and plenty of practice for their next time on the track.
