Today marked the grand opening of a new job skills training and placement center in Zanesville.
Digital Works is a program under Connect Ohio that is aimed towards improving the community by giving graduates a chance to learn the latest technology. The program teaches students customer service skills, internet usage and complex computer functioning.
"Now getting on the computer is way different than in was back then so to brush up on those skills and actually go back into computer work its been really great to go through this program, "said Graduate, Ashley Marshall.
Marshall says with her new certification she hopes to get a job working from home so that she can stay with her five year old child. At the end of the six week program workers are guaranteed placement in a job that fits their skills and interest. The new job center is expected to have a positive effect on the economy in Zanesville.
"it’s an incubator for that community leaders can actually utilize to recruit other companies, that’s happened in places we worked in it certainly creates opportunities for a lot of people that don’t have opportunities, " said National Employee Relations Manager, Michael Dumont.
The first Zanesville Digital Works Center is located in a suite of the Muskingum County Business Incubator building on Pinkerton Road.
The funding for the new program is provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.
