Giving back to the community was the goal of one local fire department on Sunday.

The Licking Township Fire Department had their Biannual Open House for the public. The open house gave members of the community a chance to view the equipment and see what their tax money is used towards.

"We have Air Evac out of Licking County, which is a medical helicopter. We have Med Flight Six out of McConnellsville. We have Pizza Cottage here providing food," said Fire Chief, Matt Wheeler.

At the open house, children received free snow cones, played with the Sheriff’s k-9 unit dog and jumped up and down on inflated "moon walks." Chief Wheeler says kids learned important information along with having a fun filled day.

" Have a good plan in case something happens and make sure you stick to it. Practice it often and make sure the kids know what they should do in the event of an emergency," said Fire Chief Wheeler.

The Muskingum County Fire Fighter’s Association bought a smoke house for the fire department to use . The smoke house is a trailer that gives children a chance to simulate getting out of a burning house safely. They also watched a demonstration from AEP about the dangers of electrical wires and how they can prevent injury.
