Crews responded to a fire around 6:30 Thursday evening.

The blaze started at a structure behind the Zane Food Mart off of Linden Avenue. The Zanesville Fire Department responded to the scene. The Assistant Chief says he has an idea of what might have caused the fire.

"Right after that thunderstorm came through we were on a couple of other calls when we got a call that lightening struck and a building was on fire at this address, " said Assistant Chief Dave Huey.

The building was vacant except for old furniture and other storage. Huey says that a large portion of the damage is most likely irreversible.

" This end of the building is going to be pretty much a total loss. There’s a smaller portion that has a lot of smoke damage but that part of the building is solid, " said Huey.

The structure was comprised of three connected buildings. The owner of the building is unknown. The Zanesville Fire Department is not releasing any more information at this time.
