The OSU Alumni Club of Muskingum County will hold its 14th Annual Scholarship Auction on Thursday, June 20, at the VFW Post 1058, 1318 Putnam Avenue in Zanesville. The event will include both live and silent auctions for a variety of sports memorabilia and other valuable merchandise donated by area businesses, organizations, and individuals, and will also feature Jonathan Waters, Director of The Ohio State University Marching Band, as the guest speaker of the evening. Attendees can meet the man in charge of “The Best Damn Band in the Land” and responsible for the awesome formations and performances that have received worldwide acclaim.
Prior to Director Waters’ remarks, the club will honor the recipients of its annual awards, the OSUACMC Outstanding Alumni Award and the Outstanding Friend of OSUACMC Award. These awards were established in 2012 to recognize individuals who have provided significant contribution and support to the causes of the local alumni group, as well as to The Ohio State University and/or The OSU Alumni Association. Richard E. “Dick” Dittmar and Joyce Dittmar have been selected to receive the 2013 Outstanding Alumni Award. Mr. Dittmar passed away March 6 of this year and is being honored posthumously. Dick and Joyce Dittmar were part of the original group of Ohio State graduates who founded The OSU Alumni Club of Muskingum County in 1988, and were both actively involved in the club’s development and emergence as a viable affiliate of The OSU Alumni Association and an active community non-profit organization. Dick served as a member of the board of directors for over 20 years, and he and Joyce represented OSUACMC for several years at the annual Alumni Leaders Conference, which brought Ohio State alums from all over the world to Columbus for leadership and fellowship activities. John Ridenour has been named to receive the 2013 Outstanding Friend of OSUACMC Award. Ridenour has voluntarily served as the Auctioneer for every Scholarship Auction held by the local OSU Alumni Club, the group’s largest annual fundraiser, which is this year being held for the 14th time. John has established a very positive and productive relationship with The OSU Alumni Club of Muskingum County and he is a key component to the success of the annual auction.
The scholarship auction is open to the public, with all proceeds to benefit the club’s Scholarship Fund, which provides numerous scholarships each year for deserving Muskingum County students enrolling at the campuses of The Ohio State University. Doors will open at 5:30pm for a reception and placing of silent auction bids. The presentation of the annual awards will occur at 7:00pm, followed by Director Waters at 7:30 and the live auction at 8:00pm. A heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet and a variety of snacks will be served throughout the evening and a cash bar will be available. Tickets for the event are $20 per person or $175 for a corporate table of 8 seats and may be obtained at Tom’s Print Shop (710 Main Street), from club board members, or at the door the day of the event.
