Residents Swim To Cool Off

Since the pool opened on June 1, Craig Miracle, the Executive Director of the Muskingum Family YMCA says he usually sees around 200 kids in the pool on a hot day.

"Busiest times have been traditionally between about noon and 3:00 p.m. because of our day campers and some of the other groups that are here. But after about 3:00 p.m., it slows down somewhat so you see more families coming in towards the evening," said Miracle.

Miracle says the pool is free to YMCA members. But if you don’t have a membership and want to swim, the fee is only $5. His advice to swimmers is to stay hydrated, make sure you reapply sunscreen and says kids 12 and under should bring an adult with them.

"That’s more of a safety issue than anything. We do with any kid that does come to the pool, they are swim tested. Our priority is safety and that’s the first and foremost thing on our mind with the lifeguards and the other staff is to keep all of our patron’s safe."

The pool is open 12:00-7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday’s 1:00-6:00 p.m.
