The Saturday Farmer’s Market brought in large crowds to the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

There were booths set up outside and indoors at the event. Vendors sold fresh produce, meats and cheeses and a variety of home grown and homemade items. Rich Schroeder, President of the Saturday Farmer’s Market says the weather sometimes affects the time and amount of produce available at the market.

"One thing people must remember is on May 27th, we had frost in this area and its going to make products later this season than in other seasons, " said Schroeder.

Later in the season shoppers can expect more tomatoes, sweet corn and green peppers and for fruit they can expect fresh cantaloupe and watermelon.

"The strawberries were and the tomatoes are selling hot and oh we are just now into green beans and they’re selling hot," said Farmer, Mark Barnhart.

Farmers say that this years business started off slow but with the changes in weather and crop coming in they expect business to pick up in the upcoming weeks. If you would like to visit the Saturday Market, get there before noon on Saturdays.
