A cancer benefit for a local teacher was done a bit differently in Roseville Saturday.

The community came together to raise money for a fourth grade teacher at Duncan Falls Elementary School, Kathy Talk. They had a softball benefit in her honor. Each team paid $125 to participate. Volunteer, Cindy Penrod says Kathy is deserving of this benefit.

"Kathy is an awesome lady. I’ve known Kathy for a few years, my son and her son actually graduated high school together this year, " said Penrod.

Kathy’s son Elijah says that he loves his mother and she is doing better than expected.

"She’s doing really well she’s out of physical therapy and occupational therapy two months early, " said Talk.

Kathy has battled breast cancer since August and her son says she is pleased that people have rallied together to help her. More than 22 businesses worked together to provide food and items for the silent auction. Along with that t -shirts were made and half of the proceeds go to Kathy. Ruraldale Farmers and Friends put the event together and if you would like to donate you can contact their advisor.
