The only undefeated and untied team in the National Premier Soccer League’s Midwest Region kept its perfect record intact today (Sunday) following a visit to Zanesville.
Detroit City FC shut out Zanesville Athletic FC 3-0 to run its record to 10-0-0. The win also allowed Detroit City to clinch the Great Lakes Division title. The club is expected to be the top seed in the upcoming Midwest Region playoff tournament.
Following a 30-minute delay due to lightning in the area around the Maysville Athletic Complex, Detroit City opened the scoring in the 20th minute when forward Zach Myers scored off an assist by defender Nick Loowen.
DCFC doubled its lead just before halftime with University of Michigan product Fabio Perreira (PUH-rare-UH) scoring on a free kick. Perreira found the lower left corner of the net with a scorching drive from 20 yards away in the 44th minute.
ZAFC found itself a man down going into halftime when forward Smart Osadolor (OH-SUH-DOH-LOR) was shown two yellow cards in a matter of seconds. Osadolor picked up his first caution after being whistled for a foul at midfield. The second yellow was issued for dissent and Osadolor was sent off.
Detroit City capped the scoring in the 67th minute when second-half substitute Jordan Tyler found the net from outside the box.
ZAFC goalkeeper Mike Lambeck recorded nine saves in the defeat. With the loss, ZAFC’s record falls to 1-1-8.
