The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene just before 10 a.m. on SR 22 and Township Road 49 near Fultonham on Thursday. According to troopers, Patsy McCoun of Roseville was driving west bound on SR 22 when her Hyundai Sonata was hit on the left side by Mitchell Oliver of New Lexington who was crossing SR 22 in his Dodge Ram pick-up truck.
"Two people were injured. One was the driver of the Sonata was injured and transported to Good Samaritan. And the passenger in the Dodge pick up truck was injured, also transported to Good Samaritan," said Trooper Butch Wilson of the OSHP.
Trooper Wilson says the extent of the injuries is unknown at this time and says Oliver will be issued a citation for failing to yield at a stop sign. Neighbors and local business owners say that accidents happen frequently at the intersection where the crash took place and say there needs to be something done about it, but Trooper Wilson says that’s not the case.
"It’s clear view east and west from SR 204 and Township Road 49. Most of the time the crashes we have here are ACDA, somebody slowing down to make a turn at the intersection or somebody failing to yield from the intersection."
Trooper Wilson wants to remind everyone to make sure they slow down and stay safe this Fourth of July.
