The owner of a Zanesville nursing home is fighting back after being singled out by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. In a press release the president of Autumn Health Care Steve Hitchens says he has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Columbus to stop the state from shutting down his facility. In the suit Hitchens challenges Attorney General Mike DeWine’s use of cameras inside Autumn’s Zanesville nursing home this year. During a June press conference outside the nursing home Dewine said the tapes from the video camera’s revealed “absolutely shocking and disturbing” treatment of residents. Earlier this year the Ohio Department of Health sent a letter to Hitchens telling him of the state’s intent to take away the facility’s license. Hitchen’s has filed an appeal. Autumn Health Care operates five other nursing homes which are not part of the investigation.
