Zanesville Police say a 23-year-old man suffered injuries from a shooting last night.

Captain Tony Coury says, that the incident took place during the evening hours Monday at 819 Jackson Street. Several people were outside the residence when a vehicle drove up and an occupant fired several gunshots at the group.

"Right now, the investigation looks like it may have stemmed from an earlier incident in the day,” said Captain Tony Coury. “But the detectives right now are just trying to piece it all together, to see if it did have something to do with an earlier incident and if it did of course we will look at that too."

The 23-year-old was struck in the chest by one of the bullets. He drove himself to the hospital where he was treated for his injury. He’s currently in serious but stable condition but Coury said it did not appear to be life threatening. Authorities were able to locate the suspected gunman, he was taken into custody and is awaiting formal charges.

"Right now it looks like he is going to be charged with at least one count of felonious assault for shooting someone one. It is a second degree felony, so it will be punishable by prison time."

The case remains under investigation. Coury says anyone with information is being asked to call the police department at 740-455-0700
