A Zanesville organization is taking applications for two programs that help local children go back to school in style.

Eastside Community Ministry is collecting school supplies and donations to fill up backpacks. Last year they gave away 750 backpacks to local children, and this year their goal is to reach 800 community kids.

"We are taking out applications once again. We’ve been here last week Monday through Thursday and we’re here this week Monday through Thursday taking applications for the Tools for School and Lace Up For Kids Program," said Co- Chair,Betsy Thomas.

The application form has an area where visitors can check off which program they would like to sign up for or they can apply for both.
Lace Up For Kids is another program that the ministry provides that will give out 1,000 pairs of new shoes to local children this year free of charge.

"Actually it’s a lot of fun because our person who goes out and shops for us gets really cute shoe, very stylish ones, and we get all sizes all the way from little tiny people to I think our biggest one so far this year is size 17, " said Program Chairman, Sally Goins.

Both programs are scheduled to take place in August but until then the ministry urges people to make donations. This Saturday Tools for School will have a Stuff the Bus event at Walmart north from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in order to gather as much school supplies as they can for their big event on August 8th at Zanesville Middle School.
