Fresh Local Meat at Farmer’s Market

Knowing where and when your meat is produced is a promise that one local meat vendor is willing to make.

Saturday at the farmer’s market the third generation owner of Shirer Bros Meat explained their process of getting fresh meat to the public every week.

"I think probably the main thing is we get our stuff ready like the day before the market on Friday, so everything is fresh vacuumed pack on Friday," said John Shirer.

Shirer says that by producing his meat and cheese products locally, he can keep products affordable, and customers do not have to worry about the shelf life. Some of his most popular sells this summer have been the peppered bacon, trail bologna, and hamburger patties. He believes that the farmer’s market is important to the economy in Muskingum County.

" I’m a firm believer in supporting your local community and everyone at this market is local so I feel like it’s beneficial for people to support the local community rather than big corporations," said Shirer.

Shirer says business for the company has been busy this season unless the rain curbs people from coming out. He wants shoppers to stop by and check out their wide variety of options if they are in the area.
