The Newark Police Department has reached a conclusion in a major criminal investigation…

In January, members of the Newark Division of Police Detective Bureau began investigating a series of crimes, that started out with BB gun vandalism to numerous homes, but eventually led to aggravated robberies and felonious assaults.

After months of investigation, detectives were led to seven individuals, who identify themselves as the "Ohio Boyz." As a result, five adults — Brett VanValkenburg, Nathan Speight, Dustin Nelson, Robert Wheeler, and Rocky VanValkenburg, along with two juveniles — Austin LaGrange and Devonte Stull, were charged with numerous counts, including participating in Criminal Gang Activity.

Detectives said some of the men also beat up the same homeless man on two separate occasions in April, almost killing him the second time.
Newark officials said the gang is specific to Newark.
