On Thursday the three judges for the Texaco Showdown, all of which have extensive experience with music and competitions, were busy narrowing down the dozens of applicants for the Texaco Showdown to about 12 finalists.
"We’re actually really enjoying the process thus far and we really appreciate all of the talented artists who have submitted their tracks," said Vicki Maple, a judge for the competition. "And basically what we’re charged with is, to try and find the best new country act."
The judges were provided a scoring sheet by Texaco. Some of the categories they are scoring the contestants on are their stage presence, if they performed their own material, their passion and marketability.
"Certainly, they’re giving us a very difficult job to pair it down. A lot of good musicians that we’re hearing," said Laura Schumann, a judge for the competition.
Contestants will be notified if they made it to the finals by July 15. The Texaco Showdown takes place August 3 at Secrest Auditorium.
