On Monday, a truck-load of 17 steel beams for the future natatorium made their way from Columbus to Zanesville. The massive beams were welded onto the recreation center and the executive director, Beth Chapman, says Monday was an important day for the community.
"We’ve really planned very hard for four years for this aquatic facility to be built and it’s coming into full motion and today’s a big day. We’re placing the steel on the natatorium," said Chapman.
The multi-use natatorium will feature an 8-lane competition pool and a 2,000 square foot activity pool for learn-to-swim lessons, water aerobics and more.
Chapman said, "With this facility, not only will we have the natatorium but we’re making it a full exercise recreation facility so there will be dry activities. Fitness floor, massage therapy, a wide variety."
The Muskingum Recreation Center is expected to open in March of 2014.
