Tips To Keep Your Pets Cool

Your pets can be affected by the weather just like humans, so Jody Murray, the executive director of The Animal Shelter Society is offering up some tips for pet owners to keep their animals safe throughout the summer.

"Obviously they’re going to be drinking a lot more water right now," said Murray. "And not only is it important to make sure they have water but if you’re not giving them fresh water a couple times during the day, it can get too hot. You don’t really think about that normally but it can get too hot and they wont drink it so they can get dehydrated."

The temperature inside your car can get to over 100 degrees in a matter of minutes, so never leave your pets inside your car. Another thing to keep in mind is the temperature of the pavement your dogs walk on.

"If it’s too hot for you to walk on it, it’s too hot for them to walk on it. It could cause some burns and some possible injuries to them."

If your dog or other pets start to show symptoms of over-heating, take them to a cool area, give them water and contact your veterinarian.
