The Animal Shelter Society of Muskingum County volunteers and staff are busy preparing for their annual fundraiser coming up in October and they’re inviting the community to join in on the fun.
"Our auction used to be in August. Which August is a busy month with people getting their children ready for school or the county fair and those kinds of things," said Executive Director, Jody Murray. "So we’re hoping that moving it to the fall, that it will just make it more convenient for people to come out and support the auction."
This year’s theme is "Paws and Pigskins." Since the auction takes place in the fall, Murray wanted to have a football-themed auction this year. He invites everyone to wear their favorite team’s jersey or colors, but if you’re not a football fan, casual dress is fine too. And since it’s a bye-week, no one will have to miss the Buckeye’s game. The Animal Shelter Society is a private nonprofit, so they only operate on donations and adoption fees. Murray says 100% of the money raised will go to the animal shelter.
"And it’s one of those things that, for the shelter, obviously the more money we make at the auction, the more services we can provide to the homeless animals. So we want people to come out and have a good time and share the evening with us."
The auction is Saturday, October 12 at the OUZ/Zane State Campus Center. The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. You can call 740-452-1077 for more information on tickets, reserving a table or if you would like to donate to the auction.
