On Thursday, a local church gave away more than 500 hundred backpacks to children of all ages.

The House of Grace Church located on Maysville Pike wanted to assist the local area through charity and decided that helping children with their education was important to the future of the community.

"Education is power. The more knowledge you have the more power you have. If we can educate our children, they become greater in our community, and the greater the education, the greater the community becomes," said Pastor of House of Grace Church, Joe Dunlap.

There were three sessions where families could pick up the backpacks that they signed up for earlier in the week, Pastor Joe says that the community rallied around the church and their new backpack give away.

"The community’s response has been phenomenal from the business owners, to the different people who have helped us, but our church people have been wonderful,"said Dunlap.

The House of Grace Church plans to make this a yearly event and encourages kids to come out to kids camp next week. They still have 25 open spots. For more information you can call the church at 740-455-4647.
