The Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair, which takes months to plan, opens this Sunday. Vendors were setting up their booths Friday morning and some have even been setting a week in advance.
"We set tents Tuesday. Our rides was in here Monday and they’re pretty well set," said Secretary Concession Manager, Dave Guinsler. "We’ve got a few more to come in. Overnight Saturday night, there will be a lot of our food and game people coming in here from other fairs."
There are 12 directors on the Muskingum County Fair Board who help plan the fair, but Guinsler says it takes help from everybody to put on a good event.
"We start right after this fair. Getting ready for next year. Like our name entertainment, we’ll start in late October and work on it and sometimes you don’t have that finalized until February or March so we work all year."
The fair is open Sunday-Saturday everyday from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Admission is $9 and that will get you free rides, parking and access to the grandstands. They’ll also be having a promotional day on Monday where a Wendy’s french fry carton will get you free admission from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday is Kroger Day; if you bring in a can of Kroger vegetables that will get you free admission and finally on Friday, a can of Pepsi will get you for free.
