One grocery chain is using their day at the fair to help a local organization.
Wednesday, August 14 is Kroger Day at the Muskingum County Fair. Those that bring a 14.5 or 15.5 ounce can of Kroger brand corn, green beans, mixed vegetables or peas between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. will get in free.
All the canned goods collected will go to Christ’s Table.
"We have helped Christ’s Table for quite some time. We give daily donations to them and also knowing the needs for all the different people they help in our community, we know it’s kind of one of the priorities on helping," said Kroger Head Dairy Clerk Marti King. "Plus it’s a community project for us."
Each day Christ’s Table goes through 100 cans of fruits or vegetables. Kroger’s goal is to collect 3,000 cans to help them for a month.
"It’s been a long summer," explained Christ’s Table Executive Director Keely Warden. "Our numbers go up in summer because of the children that we serve, so this is going to be a great opportunity for us to restock our shelves. When we hear the numbers that Kroger wants to produce for that day. We hope the community comes out and does that."
Kroger will also have a stand in the Veteran’s building where they will have some healthy food options like fresh fruit, granola bars and water. Money raised from the stand goes to helping Light the Night.
