Sunday was the last day of a popular music series that lasted all summer and tonight it went out with a bang.
The Zanesville Memorial Concert band had their last concert of the 2013 summer concert series at Zane’s Landing .They brought in guest conductor, Gene Milford for their finale. Milford is an experienced teacher and musician.
"I taught public school music in Pennsylvania for a few years and Ashtabula County up in Lake Erie and then since retirement there I’ve taught at the University of Akron," said Milford.
Along with teaching and conducting, Milford creates his own compositions and performed them for the large crowd.
"Most of what I write is for public school bands. The Ides of March in Wadsworth, Ohio and it is called Pride of the Western Reserve. There is one that is a story by C.S. Lewis who was a British author, a science fiction novel that is called Out of this Planet, so it is kind of a scenario of that, " said Milford.
Milford says he was honored to work with the concert band and he also enjoys spending time with the members of the band that he has worked with before.
