A local girl from Zanesville High School won two scholarships for her high academic standards.
Andrea Ross is the recipient of both the Judge Perry B. Jackson Scholarship that was established in 1991 and the Minority Business Association Scholarship that is provided by funds collected at the annual Ribfest. Both scholarships were given through the Nelson T. Gant foundation. Ross says she worked hard to receive these scholarship.
"Filling out the application did require a little bit more than other applications, but it was definitely worth it I had a lot of reference letters from different teachers, coaches, and pastors, " said Ross.
The scholarships totaled $600 dollars and will go towards Ross’ first year at Ohio University where she hopes to study sports medicine and become an athletic trainer.
" I am pretty nervous but I can definitely get through it. My plans are to get the best grades I possibly can for my first year and years following, but I’m just worried about the first one right now ," said Ross.
If you are interested in applying for a scholarship through the Nelson T. Gant Foundation feel free to contact President, Connie Norman or Treasurer, Anita Jackson by phone. Deadlines are due by May 1st, 2014.
