There is just one day left until the ‘Lace Up For Kids’ shoe distribution and on Wednesday Eastside Community Ministries was hard at work getting ready.

This is the 25th year for the fundraiser that benefits children from our area.

"It’s wonderful,” said Co-Chair, Sue Thuma. “There is a big need and everyone knows when you go to school for the big first day, in fact, I think I saw a commercial this morning when I got up about looking right on the first day of school and our kids are going to go on the right foot to school."

A 17 foot truck was filled to capacity with containers full of shoes. Some Zanesville High School football players helped unload the truck.

"Just a few that signed up for a service project to help around the city,” said ZHS Senior Doop Daniels. “Because I thought I could help out and help a few people by doing this."

Thuma said they work all year long to gather at least 1500 pairs of shoes in order to be sure each child has a brand new pair for the new school year.
