A nationally known New York Times best selling author and medical doctor visited Zanesville on Thursday.

Dr. Michael Palmer is the author of 19 suspense novels that feature medical and political themes. He’s also the Associate Director of the Massachusetts Physician’s Health Group, where he helps doctors recover from drug dependency and mental and physical illnesses.

"I am in Zanesville because a friend of mine Dr.Whitacre invited me to come and talk to the medical people in Zanesville," said Dr. Palmer. Not just about my writing, but about my job in Massachusetts taking care of sick doctors. "

Palmer started writing novels after becoming a doctor, he was inspired by a colleague of his who had successfully written a medical inspired thriller. 19 novels later, Palmer is still passionate about writing these works of fiction.

"I write very emotionally," said Dr, Palmer. I write very much from the heart if I feel that I am writing and I haven’t reached inside my chest and grabbed my heart and pulled it out then I’m just sitting there going through the motions, and I don’t like what I’ve done. "

One of Palmer’s earlier novels, Extreme Measures was made into a feature film featuring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker. For more information about Palmer’s extensive career or his writing you can visit his website at or like his Facebook page.
