If you enjoy nature, fishing, and arts and crafts, then there’s an event for you and your family this weekend.
The Girl Scout Center in Zanesville is hosting the "Girl Scouts and Friends Fun Day" at Dillon State Park. Organizers said there will be plenty for girls, boys, and families of all ages to do.
"They can come out at anytime," said Event Coordinator Kymm Stone. "We’re going to have all different kinds of events going on, like archery, we’re going to have fishing, tug-of-war, we’re going to do a First Aid Skill-a-Thon, where they can earn their first badge that day."
Instead of holding separate recruiting events in each area school district, this year, coordinators chose to hold one big event, open to girls in Muskingum, Perry, Licking, and surrounding counties. If girls decide they want to join a troop, they can sign up right on the spot.
"I think this event will give people a good idea of what girl scouts is really about," said Event Coordinator Joy French. "I think it gives them a broader spectrum… Instead of maybe what they used to think traditionally about girl scouts. So, I hope it will spark a lot of interest among girls, and it’s for girls from kindergarten through high school. It’s not just for little kids."
The event takes place Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and signs will be posted directing participants to the correct areas of the park. For more information, contact the Girl Scout Zanesville Service Center at (740) 454-8563.
