A competitive fundraiser is taking place on Saturday to raise money for the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.
The 6th annual Guns and Hoses Fundraiser will take place at Riverside Park Saturday morning from 9 a.m to 3 p.m . The game is comprised of five teams that feature local law enforcement agencies and fire departments. In the past the teams played flag football, but this year they are trying something new.
"It was kind of limited because we only ended up with two teams and they guys aren’t as young as they think they are sometimes, and we just decided that baseball would be a little bit more well rounded, " said Event Organizer, Jenifer Cruzan.
Along with the games, there will be both an adult and children’s home run derby contest for the public to participate in. Each player will be allowed ten hits for $10. If locals are interested they can also get involved by buying a Guns and Hoses T-shirt that was created by one the event’s corporate sponsors.
"We got the privilege to come up with the shirt design that’s being sold," said Owner of Four Seasons Graphics, Johnny Nolan. We also came up with the trophies this year for the home run derby and the champion trophies."
The proceeds from the shirts will also benefit the Red Cross and winners of the derby will take home trophies. For more information on this event you can visit their Facebook page at Guns Versus Hoses softball tournament.
