An annual fundraiser brought local law enforcement agencies and fire departments together for a good cause.
Saturday, at Riverside Park the 6th annual Guns and Hoses Tournament took place. This year, the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center and ZPD played for the guns, while Falls Township, Adamsville and Dresden Fire Departments all played for the hoses in a friendly round of softball. The money raised at the competition will go to the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.
"It’s great," said Falls Township Fire Department Assistant Chief, Jarrod Murphy. I mean to come out here and get a group of guys together, and just support a local organization that really helps out the community in itself. "
This year, the fundraiser chose a new sport to play and veteran player, Sheriff Matt Lutz welcomed the change.
"Its been good," said Sheriff Lutz. The foot ball thing went really well, we raised a lot of money for Red Cross, which was the main thing we did it for, and it’s a nice beautiful day and there are a lot of guys on the fire side and on the law enforcement side that play softball as a recreation sport so this fits good. "
ZPD and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department played in the final championship game. The Sheriffs won the tournament 14 – 4. Organizers say the competition raised a little more than $1,000 for the Red Cross this year.
